since the tango version of the arch logo http://www.archlinux.org/media/logo.png is also used on the homepage and since it looks better than the currently used (IMHO ), i would like to know how people would think about replacing the current icon during bootup: http://www.archlinux.org/logos/archlinux_logo_aqua.png with the tango version?
i think it would look better.

How about "none"?

How about "none"?
Framebuffer is turned off by default (, I think?), nobody forces you to use it.

But if you want a framebuffer and no logo... :-)

there are two logos showing up for you, because you have either a dual core cpu or a cpu with hyperthreading support.
if you'd had a quadcore cpu, there would be 4 logos.

Any way to change this?
Back on topic. I see no reason to to add the arch logo. IMO we should leave the branding to the distros who already do it.
I made it long
as I lacked the time to make it short...

There already is an Arch logo. The discussion is about changing the aqua-style logo currently in use to the newer tango-style logo, as used on the website.

Has anyone tried the tango version?
I think that with the black background of the console, the middle line (black) perhaps can't be seen properly.

KISS. No logo. Thank you.

I like the Arch branding when the machine is booting. I think its awesome--gives it a unique look immediately upon boot and it screams "ARCH" (aka coolness). 8)

The vanilla kernel has Tux, they've just swapped the logo. Saying KISS at every suggestion of a feature is getting old fast.

I like the arch logo, too. I'd be bummed if it were done-away with.

I'd keep the arch logo or, better, would do a complete arch-based splash theme at various resolution. Anyway, the aqua logo to me looked better than the tango one.

recompile the kernel with disabled logo...

The aqua logo is hideous. I've disabled the arch menu in the gnome menu just to I wouldn't see it.

The beyond kernel package has fbspash support for those who want a graphical boot.

Yeah, I know and it's what I'm using right now
What I meant was why not using fbsplash/gensplash/splashy with a arch-based theme (from 800x600 till 1900x1200 or similar resolution to satisfy everybody needs) by default? Why only a little logo when you can have better resolution and a nicer without-X look?
Obviously with the beyond and/or the vanilla kernel.

Not everyone wants a graphical bootup. And some cards don't support framebuffer and throw error messages. My card did this until kernel 2.6.18.

One of the linux-users' mysteries (apart for those as you say that have problem to make the framebuffer work obviously).

I torn between whether I want a logo or not... I guess if I didn't want one, i'd just turn the fromebuffer off.
But would it be possible to replace the icon with more like a banner? Like this one? http://www.archlinux.org/logos/archlinu … colour.svg

Very old thread, Odd-rationale. I think the discussion here was over, but if you'd like to submit a feature request, that would put your interest on record. If you attach your preferred graphics in the required format, that would be even better.
