TUX500 - Linux On INDY500

http://www.tux500.com is trying to raise some (a lot actually) money so as "LINUX" appears as the main sponsor in an Indy500 car.

Our goal is simple: we want to collect community donations to enter a Linux sponsored car in the 2007 Indianapolis 500.

Allthough I'm not sure that linux needs marketing, it sure is a nice idea smile

ps: (flame mode on) if the guy who finances Ubuntu learn about the idea I'm pretty sure that the Ubuntu logo will appear all over the race tongue lol

Re: TUX500 - Linux On INDY500

You're kidding, right?  linux was inceptualized in 92.  By concensus, it has been ready for the desktop since 2004 .    You state Allthough I'm not sure that linux needs marketing,...

Windows is still holding 90 percent of the worlds desktops.  Word of mouth may be working but at this rate, our great great grandchildren will still be fighting this battle.

Agree with the method we are trying or not, you have to agree that getting sponsorship in the most widely watched one day sporting event is pretty cool...and this is just the beginning.  I cant't believe members of this community won't spend 1.34 to see if it will indeed work.   If one percent of this community donates one dollar and thirty four cents apiece, this is a done deal.  If they don't, it's not only pathetic, I'm afraid they deserve the back seat position they now hold in the world's desktop OS.

Re: TUX500 - Linux On INDY500

I say I don't think that linux needs marketing because people that don't know about computers won't deal with linux just because TUX was in a race.
In 4-5 years maybe, but not yet!

On the other hand software/hardware companies might start providing better stuff for linux.
Anyway, that's just my opinion smile

Mandos, and that opinion is just as valuable as mine or anyone elses...We're jut trying to make the first entry into the world of marketing a big one.  You are ea brother in arms and bickering between us is not my goal...re-reading my post, it would seem that's exactly what I was doing and it's not.  Now, lets go get a checkered flag...or better yet, let's shoot for a green one.

I'm pretty sure this is not legit...

http://penguinpetes.com/b2evo/index.php … &tb=1&pb=1

read thru all the links that guy compiled. at first I thought it was just a really stupid idea, but then I look at how many different aliases they've used...and all the cross linking...what else would be a good reason? I hope to hell that no one is giving them money.

edit: I also decided to read some more of the stuff. A lot of the "people" standing up for them talk exactly the same, and the same phrases appear again and again

How's this for not legit.  You should be extremely careful in whom you choose to believe.  Especially on the internet.  Now...I want you to show me how or why this is not legit.  it is no longer a project you are calling into doubt.  It is my integrity and my ability to provide for my family.
