How to I send host-name to my router?

When I log into my netgear router's webmin page, my Arch Linux connection is reported as "UNKOWN" even though /etc/rc.conf has

HOSTNAME="thinkpad"
eth0="dhcp"

and /etc/conf.d/dhcpcd has

DHCPCD_ARGS="-t 30 -h $HOSTNAME"

Can someone please tell me why my hostname is not being sent to my router and what I need to do to get to be sent?

Maybe the router is buggy.

If you can alter its DNS table, just set your hostname manually.

All the small office/home office routers I've used were unable to get the hostname from my linux boxes. Netgear, SMC, Actiontec... I don't think it is uncommon.

this happens when you connect to the network, and the router gets resetted. You still get a valid IP, however the router doesn't know anything about the client. My dlink DWL-730ap has the same flaw. It is nothing wrong with the dhcpcd client. You may renew your lease to find out if the router effectively refreshes its internal client database.

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

i have had this same experience.  the only boxes on my home network that ever show a hostname are either windows or my roommate's ubuntu.  possibly the use of dhclient vs dhcpcd, but i'm not entirely sure.

archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

I'm beginning to suspect this given (a) the above responses, and (b) my wife's EeePC shows its hostname on my Netgear router and Xandros uses dhclient.
