Mic don't work - no sound record - no skype [Solved]

Hi
neither internal nor external mic won't record, I AM able to hear sound ( what i'm talking to mic ) from speaker, but amplifier shows nothing and i'm not able to record something.
I used gnome-sound-recorder for testing alsa mixer, but can't figure it out. Skype won't listen to me either.

try alsamixer see if mic is muted or not

I have pretty much the same device but rev 02. As Mr Green said check that the mic isn't muted but there is one specific thing in the alsamixer that I changed to get the mic working. Digital input source was set at analog input one I changed that to digital mic 1 I was all set.

Solved:
in alsamixer
[capture]
capture: set
input source: front mic
input source1: front mic
digital: must be set!
(must alsactl store )

ofcourse mic unmuted

Could you be a little more verbose about what steps exactly you have undertaken to solve the problem? My problem seems very similar, but I can't really follow your solution path.

To be more clear:

use alsamixer to unmute your microphone(s) (internal or external; your choice entirely)
toggle the capture device (on) and set the input source(s) as the mic you intend to use
some hardware have a mic boost as well; you may need to use some boost (watch out for feedback)

set all the sound levels to your liking, test skype, then execute:

alsactl store

start the alsa daemon via /etc/rc.conf so your settings get applied at each boot

Thanks for the explaination. Seems not to work for me though. I'm not on a laptop actually but on a desktop with the intel hda also, that's why I posted here as the problem looked similar to mine.

Tried to follow the previous post, but neither the mic nor the front mic did the trick, I have Front Mic Boost, Mic Boost, Capture, Capture 1 and Digital all set to 100 and Input Source and Input Source 1 either to Mic or Front Mic in the [Capture] section, nothing works, regardless if the mic is muted or not in the [Playback] section. If I mute the item Front in the [Playback] section I can't here any sound at all, even if i plug in the headset to the rear jacks. Otherwise sound plays just fine.

I'll post a couple of information, maybe someone has an idea:

make sure, that skype isn't running while performing and storing changes by alsamixer and alsactl
