Firefox Crashes when Streaming Quicktime

When I try to view a quicktime movie in Firefox using the mplayer plugin firefox will consistently crash. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Peter

Re: Firefox Crashes when Streaming Quicktime

Yes, it has started to crash for me too lately.
Didn't used to do that before, but I haven't bothered to find out why yet.

Re: Firefox Crashes when Streaming Quicktime

This is strange. GIF?

Selected video codec: [ffgif] vfm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg GIF decoder)

It should be using something like this:

Selected video codec: [ffh264] vfm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg H.264)

Hopefully you're watching or downloading this straight from Apple and not from some random torrent site. You can get it this way too:

wget http://movies.apple.com/movies/fox/ice_age_iii/iceage3-tlrd_720p.mov

Anyway, you may want to try gecko-mediaplayer instead of mplayer-plugin. It's the future plug-in for the Mplayer project. You'll need to use gnome-mplayer though. It's awesome and really isn't part of Gnome.

Re: Firefox Crashes when Streaming Quicktime

Same here with bbc radio sad

Gecko doesn't bring any relief either so I reckon it must be this Gran Paradiso thingy as it never happened to me on a bog standard firefox...

Must investigate.

Re: Firefox Crashes when Streaming Quicktime

Yeah, I was getting it from Apple's site. Don't get all NARC on me :-p

I'll try using gecko.

Peter

EDIT:

gecko-mediaplayer seems to be working great. Thanks for the tip skottish!

Re: Firefox Crashes when Streaming Quicktime

Hm, neither mplayer-plugin nor gecko working for me on Grand Paradiso, Swiftfox or Firefox as per website, this being the usual last few lines I get:

process 24356: arguments to dbus_message_new_signal() were incorrect, assertion "_dbus_check_is_valid_path (path)" failed in file dbus-message.c line 1161.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
D-Bus not built with -rdynamic so unable to print a backtrace
./run-mozilla.sh: line 131: 24356 Segmentation fault      "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

Will try RealPlayer (desperation!!!)...

Re: Firefox Crashes when Streaming Quicktime

gecko-mediaplayer works fine here as well (32-bit system).
Using firefox-branded from aur (actually, from an unofficial Arch repo, as it saves me some compile time- but the PKGBUILD is the same as in AUR).
Actually, gecko-mediaplayer works great in opera as well. It does not load at all in seamonkey, and it simply does not work in konqueror (but it does work great with the old KDE 3.5.X konqueror from kdemod-legacy).

Re: Firefox Crashes when Streaming Quicktime

Konqueror, differently from firefox doesn't crash but I get "nspluginviewer (plugin): ERROR: Can't create plugin class" in the terminal

I have recently installed nspluginwrapper-flash 10 and that has further screwed up everything since now I can't even see the flash movies...

Re: Firefox Crashes when Streaming Quicktime

Weyhey, mplayer plugin works on Gran Paradiso with the bbc on 86_64 smile Having trouble with volume control via mouse but that is only a minor inconvenience.
