IMO there's just no need to create new official CD covers when we already have these. smile
Sadly, LightScribe utils segfaults in Arch (and most other distros). sad

awsome! > +1 big_smile

lacking a layer to change i686 to x86_64 (or would it be easy if i open the svg in a vector-based app like inkscape ?)

_Really_ nice! Just an idea, add a bit red color (like blood on it), cause the release fits namely smile Just an idea, no criticsm. Good work!

I like the idea but I am having a hard time making it fit with the rest of the design. At least I have made a version with red color and a different font.

Re: Non-official CD-cover [Duke & Voodoo]

Yeah !
Very cool work PJ. I like the red and the way the background looks modularized, like many apps we've got (dunno if that was made for) smile

Now all I need is a working lightscribe app to burn that straight on the CD

I actually had something like that in mind when I created it.

It was recommended that I put my updated submissions to the original authors of these labels here.  Hopefully people will find them useful!

Re: Non-official CD-cover [Duke & Voodoo]

In my opinion most of these images are too complicated, wich doesn't really "sell" what Arch is. Also I would suggest actually playing around with the codename. This first thing that popped into my head was the most obvious ones - having the Arch logo as a voodoo doll with pins poked in etc. I actually quickly did a CD label some time ago (didn't know this thread existed).
cdlabel08wn4.th.png
Yes, I know it looks crap, I didn't really care about the background but rather focused on the logo and idea itself. I think it would be better if the labels actually differed from each other with something apart from the number. So far these look pretty similar to the Gimmick images. Not to say that they are in any way bad. Brennan's are very nice (though the second is too complicated as well wink )

Arch isn't i686 optimized anymore. At least it's amd64 optimized for me wink

elasticdog and Brennan: please update your designs to contain "A simple, lightweight Linux distribution" instead of "An i686 optimized distribution".
elasticdog - your design will be on discs distributed by OSdisc.com, so this update is critical. wink

Re: Non-official CD-cover [Duke & Voodoo]

Could you provide a svg where the text is really text and not kust polygons? At least "A simple..." and "www.archlinux.org". That would make it easy to localize.

Re: Non-official CD-cover [Duke & Voodoo]

Sure thing...the reason I convert the text to paths is that it uses uncommon fonts that most machines probably do not have installed.  Here's the source version with no text-to-path conversion...if you want a custom one with just the slogan and address left as regular text, let me know.

Re: Non-official CD-cover [Duke & Voodoo]

Here are some new ones I've been working on for the past couple of days:

arch_cdlabel1.png
arch_cdlabel2.png

*note* I'm not sure how to add the circle to the middle of the design as I'm just now getting used to Inkscape, so if anyone knows how please let me know!  I guess it's good as-is as these labels above can be used for full-faced CD/DVD labels.

And since most of you like the 2nd version of the previous ones I've submitted, here's the updated version below:

Thanks. I couldn`t find the Eurostile Bold-Font (only Eurostile itself). Perhaps you could send me the ttf? Or just make a version with "eine einfache, schlanke Linux-Distribution" as slogan and "www.archlinux.de" as url.

Re: Non-official CD-cover [Duke & Voodoo]

I have made some minor changes.

Recreated all text areas just to preserve these as text areas and not as paths. Makes it easier to edit the texts, only negative part is that it doesn't look nice in anything other than Inkscape. Added a text area to separate i686 cd-labels from x86_64 (or ppc for example, incase someone really changes the text). I am not sure if the last text area is something preferable, but since someone ask for it in a different thread and since it wasn't that hard to create.

Hope you all enjoy the changes.

Sorry, I compeletely forgot about your request until I saw PJ's post today.  Here's a link to the modified SVG as you requested.

it would be great if you could do a black and white cover for printing it with lightscribe.

I printed these covers with lightscribe.
There's no need for just grayscale version.
However high-contrast version would be good.
But anyway, LightScribe discs have larger inner area, so center hole is larger.
They had PDF file with sizes of LightScribe discs but it got removed in new site. sad
