X.org 7.3 hits testing

Hello all,

the new X.org will be pushed to the [testing] repository in the next few
hours. xorg-server 1.4 comes with many core changes such as:

* a stable release of xf86-video-intel
* randr 1.2
* xorg.conf becomes partially obsolete
* an updated ABI for drivers

The ABI change breaks Nvidia's legacy drivers, so everyone using
nvidia-96xx or nvidia-71xx should either wait until Nvidia fixes the
issue or use xf86-video-nv in the meantime.

As usual, feel free to file bugs for all issues you can find.

Additionally, I strongly doubt fglrx will work with this release.   I believe we're looking at xorg-server 1.4 support in the next one (October's release)

nvidia isn't supported yet either because of bug: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8091

Well, it doesn't work here.

Re: X.org 7.3 hits testing

You can install it by commenting out the testing repo, doing pacman -Syu, looking which packages that are indicated as newer than the current and installing these with pacman-S pacmage name.
BTW, which nvidia card/driver do you use?  I have it up and running here with zero problems, using the latest nvidia driver.

Re: X.org 7.3 hits testing

OK for get synaptics to work change "AllwaysCore" to "SendCoreEvents".

BTW: xv is still kind of broken on intel. Everything is far to bright.

No, I have the same problem. No errors, just a non-functional touchpad sad

Any fix for this perhaps? smile

Hm, I already have:
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"

...in my xorg.conf, but it doesn't work sad

And yeah, my screen is too bright with the intel-driver too, so I went back to i810 again.

EDIT: Nevermind, got it working.

Yes, you can -Sf xorg-server and then -Sf nvidia-utils, that will work as a workaround until alex finds a good fix.

Re: X.org 7.3 hits testing

That's what I had done after I posted, just wasn't sure if anything was wrong with it (cause I have no idea what libwfb does)

Same here, but I've found that switching on a text console and going back to X solved the problem (more a hack than a solution, though)

EDIT: wait...
I have gamma 0.6 set on xorg.conf, and someway, X doesn't honor it on start, but only when I switch on console and then back to X. If I comment the line on xorg.conf, than everything is too bright.

Re: X.org 7.3 hits testing

My mouse is screwy...the mouse has absolutely no acceleration moving up and down but plenty moving left and right.  None of the settings appear to make a difference except to exacerbate the problem.

I just updated and now when I press my 'Caps Lock' key, caps lock is enabled, but the light on the keyboard doesn't light up when it's on anymore.

Same here... another guy had it also with 7.3. I think it's a bug. Nothing major though...

Looks like a bug: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12434
I have the same problem, I just never noticed it before.  My screen lock and num lock also don't light up.
