Network printer works, scanner doesn't - HP Photosmart 2610/ 2600

I am trying to scan some stuff via my HP Photosmart 2610 all in one device, which is connect to my network via a WLan modem.

Printing was absolutely no problem setting everything up with CUPS.

Scanning though is...

I eventually tried to set things up like explained in the Wiki for the 2575 model, yet hp-setup told me that it wasn't able to find the needed ppd file - I downloaded it from linuxprinting.org - but things didn't change.

hpaio of course is enabled in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf.

This is what I get when trying to run scanimage -L

$ scanimage -L

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

And for sane-find-scanner:

$ sane-find-scanner

  # sane-find-scanner will now attempt to detect your scanner. If the
  # result is different from what you expected, first make sure your
  # scanner is powered up and properly connected to your computer.

  # No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
  # you have loaded a kernel SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.

found USB scanner (vendor=0x0483, product=0x2016) at libusb:004:002
  # Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
  # SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

  # Not checking for parallel port scanners.

  # Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
  # can't be detected by this program.

  # You may want to run this program as root to find all devices. Once you
  # found the scanner devices, be sure to adjust access permissions as
  # necessary.

This is what I get for hp-check:

$ hp-check

HP Linux Imaging and Printing System (ver. 2.8.2)
Dependency/Version Check Utility ver. 13.0

Copyright (c) 2001-7 Hewlett-Packard Development Company, LP
This software comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
This is free software, and you are welcome to distribute it
under certain conditions. See COPYING file for more details.

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied
tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully
compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb,
.rpm, etc) or an already built HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to
successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the
above cases (both compile- and run-time dependencies).

Saving output in log file: hp-check.log

Initializing. Please wait... warning: Invalid ppd_dir value: None

Re: Network printer works, scanner doesn't - HP Photosmart 2610/ 2600

had the same problem

i did the following

sudo pacman -S hpoj
sudo nano /etc/sane.d/dll.conf

i uncommented that last part of the dll.conf file to look like

#
# The following backends are not included in the sane-backends distribution
# If you want to use them, download them from their webpages and read their
# documentation
#
# HP OfficeJet backend homepage: http://hpoj.sf.net/
# Uncomment the following line if hpoj is installed:
hpoj
hp_rts88xx
hpaio

then

scanimage -L

then my scanner worked.  hope this helps smile
