Try searching here on the forum for common fixes or google a bit tongue
You most probably need to add some modprobe options for the hda module.
Google may be the best place to look as most probably someone had that problem already and fixed it smile

Re: [SOLVED]HP Pavilion dv5 no sound

I recently got a dv5 aswell

I managed to get sound working using the /etc/modprobe.conf line
after quite some googling and compiling alsa drivers I got it to work

open your /etc/modprobe.conf and add the line
options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4 enable_msi=1

I found this tip on the alsa website,
however, as I also compiled the latest alsa I can't really tell if you also need the newest drivers
Or if it is just this rule in the modprobe.conf

good luck.

Re: [SOLVED]HP Pavilion dv5 no sound

Mostly when sound problems (brand specific) occur, it needs the model parameter. I've had some problems on a system with sound cards, it took me a long time before I found that out.

qsami & basov, maybe you guys could hook up and build a wiki page on the laptop, so that little things like sound cards an xorg are easily found back.

I started the wiki article http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HP_Pavilion_dv5 smile
all are invited to see it and help.
