Re: Going to install a PC with Arch in my car!

Hi, I also tried several touchscreen drivers, but as mentioned one post above the "Touchkit" driver is working well. The calibration tool which is included is also fine.

But I have just one probleme: When I touch the screen, the driver makes a double klick, therefore I can't use a taskbar, because the double klick opens and close the application in the taskbar. Or an onscreenkeyboard writes the letters twice.

Do you know any way to fix this problem, do you have similar problems?
I use the beta 32bit driver 2008/09/22  2.04.2119 from http://www.touchkit.com/LinuxDriver.htm

Re: Going to install a PC with Arch in my car!

Use void driver for mouse.

Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "dummy0"
    Driver "void"
    Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
EndSection

One click comes from touch driver, other from mouse driver. So, you must disable mouse wink

Re: Going to install a PC with Arch in my car!

It works now. big_smile Thanks a lot. I thought unplugging my mouse and commenting out the lines in the xorg would help, but didn't though.

Now I have another problem: If I try to kill the xserver by pressing "STRG" + "ALT" + "backspace". The xserver isn't killed and the whole pc is frozen. No reaction, no input, no way to switch to tty1. I just can push the power button to restart the machine.

Damn. I want your car.

Where's your address? And when will you be away from your house without your car?

Re: Going to install a PC with Arch in my car!

I believe he meant the supplies for the project cost 300 euro's

very nice work and awesome end result!  Congrats on a job well done!

What are you tapping power off of for the unit?

How long does it take to power on?  Do you run it off battery at idle or shutdown completely? suspend? I'm curious how its configured to power on and off.

Cars and Arch Linux...can you mix 2 more fun things? tongue

Thanks!

YES! smile

About power. My power supply http://store.mp3car.com/M2_ATX_160W_Int … wr-015.htm it has all functions auto On, Off, protection for battery discharg etc. (all info in that link)

thisperishedmin wrote:

Plus (+) from battery, minus (-) from car body where my seat mounted (pc case is mounted under drivers seat).

Power on about 30sec., using shutdown (because suspend can discharg my car battery).
I press button on screen (shutdown) then pc shutdowns normaly, then i turn off switch that absolutely turns pc power. When i want to On my pc, i turn on that switch. Then pc get power. After 5sec. power supplay sends ON signal to pc and pc boots.

I'm not using ignition from car, i use "manual" ignition wink

I thing you understand nothing...
Let's talk schematic smile

Re: Going to install a PC with Arch in my car!

Yes I believe it makes sense!

Your PC is on a switch completely independent of the car then? it does not automatically come on like a radio, but you manually control it in order to preserve battery?

Re: Going to install a PC with Arch in my car!

Yes, it is independent.
If i want turn pc on when ignition is off, i just turn on that switch and pc boots. After 10min of pc running and playing audio or video (low volume), engine starts normaly (but a little bit harder).

I happen to have a miata that I would love trying this on.  Don't suppose you could post all the parts you used and instructions in one nice little post smile

Re: Going to install a PC with Arch in my car!

i would like to do this, using a cheap netbook, and a 32gb SD card. change the acpi events script so that if the power gets unpluged (ignition gets turnt off)  whilst the netbook is on, it issues the shut down command (whilst still running from the laptops battery), then set the bios so that as soon as power is applied to the netbook it turns back on.

the eee pc and other netbook have touch screen kits available to them, just ditatch the screen from the base, mount that in the opening, then have the bottom half of the netbook behind that,

now i just need a car and im all set big_smile

hey dinux,

that's damn cool big_smile

if there is anyone here who tried navit (http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Main_Page) i would be interested in your experiences with that program.
