You shouldn't bump old threads. I, and likely others, had to see posts that are based on totally outdated information. Arch has changed a great deal since early 2011, the situation in the thread previous to your post likely does not still apply.
You'd be better off creating a brand-new thread and in that first post linking to this one if you think it is relevant.

Based on guidance in arch-wiki , I downloaded linux-firmware (from some other distro ) and installed . I restarted wlan0 , still not being able to connect.
Should I try something else like wicd-curses or ndiswrapper?
pl help with this .
]]>The big problem here is that googling for this device, all results will be "blacklist rt2800usb, use the sta driver". But the sta driver is gone. Though, like I said, the rt2800usb is now aware of this device, it should work.

Tried various ourputs for dmesg, the only i found something with was dmesg | grep rt2870:
[ 3.568249] rtusb init rt2870 --->
[ 3.571785] usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2870
As i said earlier, i've been playing around way too much with this, changed things and so on, so it's possible it can be alittle messy. But since it's a clean (almost) install i'm thinking bout finding an ethernet cable and do a fresh install. Only have to move the computer to get to the modem
Oh well, all help is welcome

]]>And all of a sudden i found that since kernel 3.0 the drivers called rt2800usb are working with the rt2870 shipset (seems like rt2870 and rt3070 is using the same drivers). How that is supposed to work I have no idea.
Anyone knows what to do about this? If i don't get it up and running soon, I'm gonna sell this and get a new one. But that seems alittle drastic when it should work "out of the box" according to the rt2870 wiki.
Ohh, and BTW. I'm not all that good with compiling and so on, so if there will be some command -writing, please write exactly what to change in files and so on.
