i followed each and every possible solution but nothing seems to fix it. i installed every dkms package, tried all the patches, changed the alps.c file and lastly i even edited alps.c to contain the unique identifier dmesg throws at me.
my touchpad keeps being recognized as ps/2 generic mouse - which renders my notebook pretty much useless.
has anyone had more luck with this notebook?
since this seems to be the solution for everyone I came here as well I am trying that thing now with the 1.4 driver and get this error here:
[root@localhost psmouse-newest-1.3]# dkms autoinstall

According to this article here - which i followed - I have to create a symbolic link but that does not solve it This happens with the original alps.c and the alternate alps.c. And as you may have seen I am on Fedora and not Arch Linux but I just hope this is not too much of a problem in this case.
Any ideas?
Edit:
Now after trying out Arch (via Antergos) I installed this package here without probs but I still have no touchpad configuration in the settings. Two finger scrolling worked right after getting into Arch but I still miss those multitouch gestures
]]>Hi there!. I'm using debian on a Vostro 3360 and couldn't get touchpad multitouch working. Tried alps without success. After some more research I get it working on using glidepoint.

Hi, may you be so kind to help me? What did you do to make this multi-touch work?
I've tried to substitute alps.c with the new one, but it didn't work for me, the package didn't compile with it at all. I tried this package https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/psmouse-alps-driver/ to compile with alps.c it's not compiled too. I tried ti fix errors ( there was an error with undefined ALPS_PROTO_V6 , after I defined it there was another one so I gave up)
So i installed last psmouse-alps-driver from aur and "xinput list" shows AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint and PSmouse if I load the module without parameters. But touchpad doesn't work at all in that case. It only works with "modprobe -v psmouse proto=imps" but in that case "xinput list" doesn't show AlpsPS/2 ALPS GlidePoint
I've solved this issue for my Dell Vostro 3360.
I've downloaded psmouse-alps-dst-0.4 from here: http://www.dahetral.com/public-download
Then I've downloaded alps.c from here: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=m404GW1G
and replaced old alps.c with downloaded one.
The I've built this module via dkms and reloaded psmouse module. My touchpad now works as it should.
This module contains reverse-engineered ALPSv6 protocol, so it might help other guys with other laptops.

]]>Use the psmouse-alps-driver package with these modifications:
source=($pkgname-$pkgver.tgz::http://www.dahetral.com/public-download/alps-psmouse-dlkm-for-3-2-and-3-5/at_download/file)
md5sums=(c826dd5b17ea20e521dc5fef1ab0bac7) #generate with 'makepkg -g'
# remove build() function
package() {
cd "$srcdir/usr/src"
install -d "$pkgdir/usr/src"
cp -r * "$pkgdir/usr/src"
}
you'll have to do this (you should create a PKGBUILD with a post_install for 2. and 3. and pre_remove with 5.)
1. extract psmouse-alps-1.3-alt to /
2. run dkms add psmouse/alps-1.3-alt
3. run dkms install psmouse/alps-1.3-alt
4. rebootuninstall:
5. dkms remove psmouse/alps-1.3-alt --all
6. delete psmouse/alps-1.3-alt
Did the following:
sudo mv psmouse-alps-1.3-alt.tbz /
cd /
sudo tar -xjf psmouse-alps-1.3alt.tbz
cd user
cd src
sudo dkms add psmouse/alps-1.3
sudo dkms install psmouse/alps-1.3
Edit: Restarted, uninstalled it, and Arceus told me there isn't an original module for this and the toggle to change the touchpad still doesn't work so I may be in the wrong thread. I also couldn't
sudo rm psmouse-alps-1.3
. It tells me "cannot remove 'psmouse-alps-1.3': Is a directory".
Edit: Problem solved in my personal forum.
Btw, I don't know how to do a PKGBUILD because I'm a noob at this so I'll leave that to one of you guys.
]]>uninstall:
5. dkms remove psmouse/alps-1.3-alt --all
6. delete psmouse/alps-1.3-alt
sudo dkms autoinstall psmouse-alps-1.3-alt
does not work on my Dell 11z [1121]. I've made a different forum since this one is old: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 7#p1266407
It's been two days that I can't use my mouse and it's driving my productivity down.
]]>Oh, sorry, my bad, was not dkms-alx but psmouse-alps-driver.
Install psmouse-alps-driver please.
Cool man, thanks once again
