I caused some EQ overflows by rapidly moving my mouse, which resulted in mouse_drv being specified in the backtrace instead of evdev_drv. However I cannot bring about an EQ overflow with the mouse unless performance has aready started to degrade in my current linux session EDIT: (as it had when I added this config). The performance hit carries over if I exit "X", with the console performance also degraded. The only way to fix this seems the be to reboot.
Last time it happened I was using chromium, had some xterms open, and had gimp open (but unused) in another workspace. The first time it happened though I don't think I even had chromium installed. I was using opera and firefox, though it may have started before opening them.

This is good, because nouveau_dri.so is the Gallium3D driver, and as you know, it is in development and not supported. It would only bring trouble, especially with AIGLX. To silence the harmless warning, you can add the following to xorg.conf ServerLayout section:
For stability it MAY be good not to use the nouveau dri driver, but for performance that's a very bad idea.
Two years ago, after having big problems with the nvidia blob a friend of mine switched to the nouveau driver.
performance without nouveau dri under KDE was so bad, he almost went back to windows.
I advised him to use the nouveau dri driver and he encountered exactly 3 crashes related to the nouveau dri driver since then.
YMMV.
But are you sure that it's a bug? Remove (or move some place else) any xorg.conf ("/etc/X11/xorg.conf" or "/etc/xorg.conf") and properly configure /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-monitor.conf:

Probably because it was made to work on "most configurations", and most configurations support low resolutions.
The framebuffer can only have so many resolutions to choose from (depending on your hardware):
# pacman -S hwinfo
# hwinfo --framebuffer

]]>Intel, Nouveau and ATI drivers already enable KMS automatically for all chipsets. So you need not install it manually.
KMS in Nouveau is supported and actually the only way to go. It automatically offers nouveaufb, an integrated (into the DRM driver) framebuffer driver for the virtual console. Most notably this gives you a high resolution text console.
I mistakenly thought I didn't need to download it. I was pretty tired at the time though which might explain my confusion. So it is working now. However, due to curiosity, I would still like to know why the vesa driver doesn't work properly. Could you shed any light on that?
