My laptop is a Sony Vaio PCG-K23 with an ATI Radeon IGP 340M graphic card. So I compiled in radeonfb driver in my kernel instead of vesafb, since from what I saw it doesn't support widescreen resolutions, atleast not on my laptop.
After that and installing the gensplash scripts and utilities in AUR, I made a simple theme to test it out (just an ugly image with a logo, I lack artistic talent). I made it following the instructions from the Gentoo Wiki.
It worked like a charm. So I think you guys shouldn't have any problems.
Good Luck,
Tebari
I did made a 1280x800-32 theme by myself (also got a 1024x768 and 1280x1024 variant @ 32bbp), but I forgot to include the 'radeonfb' parameter to the 'video='-option.
I'll certainly gonna try it. I'll post the theme later, so you can try it yourself. For now, I'm going to test it on my laptop. (Toshiba A75-S231).
]]>Bootsplash/fbsplash/gensplash, not sure which one of them, CAN handle 1280x800 resolution, and all other resolutions as long as there is a theme for it, and you can set your own resolution through the framebuffer device (for example, video=mtrr,radeonfb:1280x800-32, appended to the kernel boot line in your bootloader). Once you have this up, you can create your own theme. Take note that I haven't tested this at all, but if there is more interest in this, I think I'll give it a go, and maybe even convert a few themes and put them online for people to enjoy.
It really annoys me that most devs ignores/are unaware of the fact that quite a lot of people are using a non-standard/widescreen resolution, almost always on their laptop. However, after reading a lot, I've seen that it should be possible.
If you're interested in trying, have a go. I'd be more than interested in hearing about it!
]]>I did quite some research, but for as far as I can conclude it just can't. If you use vesafb-tng, you can check out the resolutions by reading /proc/fbx, where 'x' stands for a digit, e.g.:
cat /dev/fb0
Keep me on track of things, I'm really curious too.
Greetz.
]]>I'm just wondering if anyone has successfully set up Gensplash or similar to run at a 1280x800 resolution? I've been having serious trouble in the past with that.
