Edit: I logged into Gnome which kindly reminded me that my /var directory was full - apparently the new KDE packages filled up /cache/pacman/pkg. After freeing up some space there I was able to log into KDE.

]]>I get that too. First all the Xs then I deleted the entire .kde4 directory and now I just get a black screen with a cursor. After KDE tries to start I get a some messages like Run Command and Plasma Shell closed unexpectedly.

]]>Try a clean kde4 prefix by closing your active session (if any) and renaming ~/.kde4 to ~/.kde4backup, and then starting a new session. If it works, your desktop config will be lost, but at least the problem will be fixed. If it doesn¡t work, I don't have any other clues...
