I realise I'm late to the party, but this would make an excellent addition to the Beginner's Guide: (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_Guide#Wired_2)
]]>Incidentally, the packages on the flash drive don't matter. What gets installed when you 'pacstrap base' depends on what's in currently in the base group on the mirror you're using. So you can use the same flash drive in six years time, and get an up-to-date base install (assuming there aren't major changes to pacman/the way things are packaged in the meantime).
]]>Two days ago, I installed arch on a different system, using the same flash drive, and I did not have to install netctl, and /etc/network.d was included on the system install from 2 days ago.
the wiki is probably in the middle of an update, and I just caught it at the wrong time.

Huh? I thought you said you set this machine up this morning, what does two days ago have to do with anything?
To clarify, netctl and netcfg aren't in the base group (which I'm assuming you installed), so unless you installed one manually, you won't have either.
]]>Broken? I doubt it. You probably just haven't installed netctl.
Simple test:
pacman -Qs netctl
If you want to use netctl, it has it's own wiki page.
didn't have to install netctl 2 days ago.
I did install netctl, got network configured and rebooted. The second I pressed ENTER on my reboot, realized that I did not configure ssh, so now I'm hosed until I get home.
Thanx for the help.

]]>interesting, since I installed arch with 2 days ago using the same methods and it worked. I'm checking the netctl wiki to see if I can figure it out.
EDIT,
No dice, I don't even have a /etc/netctl directory.
I'm confused. is my install broken?
]]>Finally getting around to reinstalling Arch-64 on my SSD. I set up my machine this AM so I can ssh into it while at work and install.
I'm following the wiki and everything is going smoothly, however, when I get to this part:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … he_network
I am configuring a static network, but when I type:
cd /etc/network.d
I receive the error "No such file or directory"
what have I done during the install to muck it up? I would love to reboot the box, but I won't have SSH connectivity if I do, since the system is not completely configured.
anyway to fix this without starting from a clean boot?
