You need to re-install GRUB to use BIOS mode rather than EFI mode. I'm not sure offhand how to do this with Arch's packages. In some other systems, you'd remove the grub-efi package and install the grub-pc package, but it may work differently in Arch. Once this is done, rEFIt should show you a new option to boot in BIOS mode, which should launch GRUB.
There's only one package on Arch now - covers both modes.

Is there a way to configure grub to boot into bios mode, or is it too late by the time its been launched by refit?
Otherwise I'll try installing grub to a partition, but setting some flag in the grub config would be so much cleaner
