So now, I'm waiting to check my battery life but I think my problem was solved by installing 13.12 proprietary catalyst driver...
Put this thread to solved.
I'll stay with it and try at new updates.
]]>I've found something : after remove /etc/ati/amdpcsdb, I can run amdcccle.
If I choose Energy saver GPU, then, after reboot, I can't run amdcccle.
So I leave high performances GPU, it's ok, even after a reboot.
Is it a bug or something ?
I would really like to use energy saver because of battery life and low fan speed. Were can I report it ?
Maybe I would be more lucky with catalyst-test ?
]]>But I've found a way to make it work : disable lxdm and reboot.
Then I remove /etc/ati/amdpcsdb at each boot, before running startx. Then I'm able to open amdcccle, check configuration, fglrxinfo gives :
[jledun@io0 ~]$ fglrxinfo
display: :0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon HD 8650G
OpenGL version string: 4.3.12614 Compatibility Profile Context 13.25.18
If I reboot again, the problem appears again, then I kill X, remove /etc/ati/amdpcsdb again and it works.
I'm going to see if the problem is the same with razor-qt.
]]>Should I try a not qt based DE ?
]]>When I run fglrxinfo, the problem is the same, no effect, no error message.
When I run kinfo-center and try to have a look at video card informations, it hangs and does nothing too, I have to kill it to stop it.
Still the same problem at start : kwin_opengl_test is running, I have to kill it to get 3D effects on.
I had parametered OpenGL 3.1 for composite in KDE control center. I tryied OpenGL 2.0 and OpenGL 1.2, the result is the same for eah of these parameters.
I don't know what to do, now.
Maybe this afternoon, I'll try to install another DE or WM to check if it's a KDE bug or not.
Here is /var/log/Xorg.0.log : http://pastebin.com/bLGvaYq3
Here is /etc/X11/xorg.conf : http://pastebin.com/X3w4XwCs
In order to minimise energy, I ran amdcccle after first reboot after first configuration and selected the low power option then reboot, everything was ok, my battery life lasts 4 hours, now.
At start, KDE autostarts kwin_opengl_test and 3D effects are not working. 3D effects start to work when I kill kwin_opengl_test.
I'm currently having a look at catalyst-hook.
]]>I looked in pacman.log to see what was the last kernel update with catalyst update : linux-3.12.1-3
So I downgraded kernel to this version (virtualbox and virtualbox-host-modules too), reboot, re-installed catalyst and catalyst-utils, reboot and the problem is still the same : no 3D acceleration on KDE.
When I try to activate 3D desktop effects, it hangs, I have to kill kwin-opengl-test to use it again.
When I try to run amdcccle, the window never appears, it stays in background, without any error on cli.
]]>I spent all the day working on my MSI GX60 equiped with
[jledun@io0 ~]$ lspci | grep VGA
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Richland [Radeon HD 8650G]
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Neptune [Radeon HD 8970M] (rev ff)
Everything was running fine until today.
To show something to my son, I tried to run a VirtualBox machine but it couldn't because :
'Your machine tries to run 3D acceleration but 3D is not defined on your host' or something like that.
So I tried to run 'sudo amdcccle' or 'kdesu amdcccle', no way, it doesn't start.
I don't have any error displaying in my cli.
I just can kill it after a few minutes.
I've read somewhere on an ubuntu forum that it was necessary to install qt, so I did but it changed nothing.
I really need my virtual machines, that's windows 7 and XP clients, if I deactivate 3D acceleration in configuration, I guess windows won't like it...
Help !
