I have the same problem, I tried using rutorrent-git instead just in case but just had more errors, any solution in sight ?
I've just been "manually" adding via the terminal rtorrent interface, and then doing the rest of the management with rutorrent. Not ideal, but I can't figure out how to fix the issue.

]]>I get the following message in the ruTorrent console:
[13.12.2019 05:24:02] WebUI started.
[13.12.2019 05:24:03] Webserver user doesn't have read/write/execute access to the torrents directory. You cannot add torrents via ruTorrent. (/usr/share/webapps/rutorrent/share/torrents)
[13.12.2019 05:24:03] Webserver user doesn't have read/write/execute access to the settings directory. ruTorrent settings cannot be saved. (/usr/share/webapps/rutorrent/share/settings)
[13.12.2019 05:24:03] ruTorrent cannot determine the UID of rTorrent user. Some functionality will be unavailable.
but /usr/share/webapps/rutorrent/share/torrents has user:group of http:http and has drwxrwxrwx permissions, so it's unclear why rutorrent is reporting permissions issues.
ErrorMessage FAQ at https://github.com/Novik/ruTorrent/wiki/ErrorMessages suggests that this error "most likely relate to incorrect ruTorrent installation. Say the archive has been unpacked not under a web-server user account." But this seems unlikely given that this is my same ruTorrent installation that I have used for some years.
Any suggestions on how to proceed to debug?
