To try to be a little more precise about what the screen looks like i would describe it as looking like the side of a hill after a large snow fall at dusk. Its mostly white, but with a few blue and grey ripples in it. The image is static, so it doesn't move. What scares me about it is that it might cause burn in on my laptop screen.
Any advice would be appriciated.

Thanks for the tip, yeah, there were 3d-accelerated ones, i've just changed it to blank now.
you can also use a 2d or a more primitive one "clock" is really nice (and simple)

I'm not sure the best way to translate gobly-gook into clear language, its kinda like crap, .... or crazy ... crap, or something like that. sorry for the inconsice language. I will try and keep aware of that in future posts.
