thxs for the information. I loaded the 8139too module and it seems to work well. I got my adsl connection working finally.
I checked out the /usr/src/linux/Documentation directory and it does not exist. I think its under /usr/src/linux2.6.3. what are the files I am suppose to look at?
thanks again for the help.

You can try and modprobe it, it won't hurt anything if the driver doesn't support the card.
]]>I'm having trouble figuring out which kernel module (I am using the 2.6.3 kernel) I need to load to get my NIC working. My NIC is made by Aopen and has the model number AON-325. According to the Aopen web page it uses the Realtek 8139 ethernet controller (RTL 8139C). I noticed there are two modules listed as 8139cp.ko and 8139too.ko, are either of these the proper ones?
Is there a general web resource that lists what kernel modules are need to run different hardware? I imagine I will run into this same problem again when I try and install my printer, digital camera etc...
Finally has anyone written a howto for the HWD - hardware detect for Arch Linux ?
Thanks for the help.
