Konsole can be tweaked to your liking: colours, transparency, fonts and cursor behaviour. Actually I find it easier to configure than the KDE 3 console.
And the plasma workspace may take 15 minutes to get used to the widgets concept, but it works beautifully.
I find that Arch's implementation of KDE4 works better than Suse's, and feel quite happy with it for now...
True, I have not been able to login to console via kdm, but if you choose the failsafe option you get an xterm.
EDIT:
Of course, logging into the console is easily achieved by hitting Ctrl-F7 in the login screen. Duh....
I think that you'll really like KDEmod. When I was still using KDE, it was a perfect fit for me.
]]>Did you add the kdemod repo to your mirrors list?
No, I didn't... I'll give that a try...
Thansk! That seems to be working!!!
]]>pacman -S kdemod3-complete
The response was
error: 'kdemod3-complete': not found in sync db
Not really that helpful afterall!!!
Also, it seems that I don't have all of the necessary packages in my cache to revert using Pacman -U xxxxx
So again I ask, is there and EASY way to revert back to 3.xxx I've already spent more time on this than I would have liked.
By the way when I do a search on "revert kde 3.5" I get two hits
Kmail changes in3.5 prevent log-in to server
KDevelop 3.3 is crashing by mico
Neither of which have anything at all to do with reverting back to kde 3.5
]]>Anyway, I would recommend using KDEmod. It will be maintained so pacman -Suy isn't going to break to your system.
]]>Well, you could search the forums for the other four or five threads that have been discussing this, or you could just go here:
Thanks.... by the way, exactly what search parameters did you use to find that thread? I tried searching and never located it... I also scanned this desktop area and didn't find it... I guess I was unaware that I should look in announcements to find a solution to a desktop issue.
Thanks again!
]]>Cheers
