Could you provide us with some hwd changelog, rasat? I'm curious what's going on behind the scenes and can't find any relevant info ;-)
Thanks for reminding me, should have done it long time ago. Here is what I remember:

I filed a bug in the bugtracker but it was closed. Maybe you could have a look at this thread:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=10737There are troubles detecting ethernet cards, isdn card, floppy drive, monitor refreshrates, etc.
see my response to the refresh rates issue

It says its a USB scanner with module "scanner". I have no experience with scanners, rather asking you if you know how to setup? If you do, please let me know so I can enter in hwd's man page.

In "Hwd Project" click "snapshots" and scroll down to "snapshot" and click zip icon. It downloads tar.gz tarball.

<b>EDIT</b>
Vesrion 4.1.1 - few bugs were fixed.
Vesrion 4.1.2 - few more bugs were fixed.
Any plans on changing the backend of hwd to use hotplug/DBUS/HAL?
Before answering I had to take a look what DBUS and HAL do. Debian's package list is usually my first search:
DBUS - simple interprocess messaging system
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/devel/dbus-1.html
HAL- Hardware Abstraction Layer
http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/hal
Question arise if they do better job than lspci from pciutils package. lspci is an alternative I have in mind, but unfortunately it will be difficult to categorize the output into separate device types (audio, network, sound, etc.) from vendor and device ids alone. This is why hwsetup from kudzu is handy.... but slow.
Main point here is to have/get a search engine to detect all possible internal and external devices. Currently among Arch users there are not yet many "gadget users" with all types of devices we find in the market. They still prefer Windows, which most of the gadgets are designed for. But they are coming. Already the number of digital digital camera, palm, special m/board and laptop configure questions are increasing.
EDIT:
Found Arch having packages for both dbus and hal. I will test how they work.
Any plans on changing the backend of hwd to use hotplug/DBUS/HAL? Seems they're nicely progressing into the best tools for the job of hardware management.
That'd probobly be your best bet.
