I thought Sony "fixed" that. Or do you mean that the downgrade reverts the machine back to a release before Sony broke faith with consumers (again)?
If you cannot boot an alternate OS, I think you are hosed.Edit: Leaving this open as this is the most appropriate place to discuss this.
Edit2: Also, PPC development is dead. Arch is an X86 / X86_64 distro.
Yeah with custom firmware for the PS3 you can restore the usability of the "OtherOS" functions. I think in OFW (Official FW) 4.21 they removed the OtherOS stuff. I just shipped my PS3 Slim (got it used) to someone in Georgia to get it downgraded, and that should allow me to do some awesome things with it. I can't wait to get it back! Kholddagger a few posts up back in 2010 said s/he had a base install CD s/he made... I wanted to see if I could install Arch from that just to play around with it on older hardware. Even if ArchPPC development is basically dead I still wanna give it a try if I can.

]]>Btw, I am interested in seeing other people's kernels as they update them. I tried to make a ps3 one for 2.6.33-rc1, but it somehow came out like 10x bigger than all the other ones I've seen. Is it supposed to be compressed or something? I don't know much about kernel compiling.
