xinit as non-root user does not boot the same as root.

Hi all! I am a total beginner to arch linux, and as a result I am squinting to read the default font until I learn how to change it.  Now to the task at hand:

Awesome is my wm, and as root xinit loads into it perfectly, however, when I try xinit as a non-root user, x loads as one white terminal in the top left of the screen, and does not accept any input from my mouse or keyboard and I have to physically power down the machine.

The non-root user in question is included in the following groups:  lp wheel games video audio optical floppy storage power users

Any tips on where to look would be greatly appreciated!

Do you start it with startx or a login manager?

If startx, do you have a configurated .xinitrc in the users home file?

Different users load different .xinitrc files after startx. edit your non-root user's .xinitrc the way you want it, then try it again smile The non-root user's .xinitrc is in home/<username>.
