[SOLVED - IMPOSSIBLE]alter keyfile to control vlc

Is it possible to command vlc from the keys config file? i use it as a music player and it's a bit a drag to open the vlc gui everytime a want to go to the next track

i read a few forums regarding this matter but i only found examples for amarok (amarok --pause etc.) .

if this is possible, it would be nice wink.

Re: [SOLVED - IMPOSSIBLE]alter keyfile to control vlc

You can set Hotkeys inside vlc, Tools>Preferences>Hotkeys with simple settings or Tools>Preferences>Interface>Hotkey Settings with Advanced view or do you mean without a gui? vlc --help has alot about setting hotkeys, like cvlc --global-key-next <KEY> --global-key-prev <KEY> <FILE>

yeah i meant while the focus is not on the vlc gui :s i don't think it's possible though because it seems that any command preceded with vlc will start a new instance of vlc and simply applies the command there tongue
