[SOLVED] No output to LCD monitor

So I tried out an external monitor with my 901 eee pc today. I was pleased when I hooked it up and booted the machine that it displayed nicely on both the external VGA and LCD monitor of the netbook (in both the virtual terminal and X server). However, when I unplugged the VGA monitor, there was no picture on the LCD monitor and no amount of xrandr commands would bring it back. Actually, when I would issue the command to output to the LCD screen, the screen would flash with a picture of what should be displayed but then it just goes to black. Hell, when I boot the computer, the POST message won't even display on the LCD, I can only see it when I plug in my external monitor. I'm in desperate need of help!

Did you try the configuration information on the wiki? http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Asus_Eee_PC_901

Re: [SOLVED] No output to LCD monitor

I've read it all before and none of it seems like it would give me a solution to my problem =/

Re: [SOLVED] No output to LCD monitor

What happens with the following:

xrandr --output LVDS --auto --output VGA --off

EDIT: Also post the output of 'xrandr -q'.

Re: [SOLVED] No output to LCD monitor

Exactly as I posted above, the VGA monitor turns off and the LVDS monitor seems to attempt to turn on (flashes quickly and I catch a glimpse of the terminal with xrandr command) but just goes to black. As for the output of xrandr, I can't get that to you right away but everything seemed perfectly normal (i.e. VGA1 and LVDS1 were both connected with different resolution values beneath them).

Re: [SOLVED] No output to LCD monitor

Is there anything interesting in your Xorg.0.log? Post that as well when you can.

You might also check the BIOS for any settings related to video.

Another option might be to use the following xorg.conf as a basis for testing. http://www.jlk.net/travels/files/901_xorg.conf You can use wget to grab it from the command line.

Re: [SOLVED] No output to LCD monitor

I upgraded my BIOS (have been meaning to do this for a while for other reasons) and it seems to have fixed it, though I'm still scared about plugging in my monitor.
