Old version of xorg-server

Hello everyone!

Due to my work, I have to use an old version of xorg-server wich supports x shared pixmaps. As I was told, I should use a version 1.5.x.
I am wondering, is there a way to install that particular version of x-server in my archlinux system (2010.05, i686)?

I tried to download a tar and compile it, but it gives me an error in /usr/include/X11/extensions/panoramiXext.h include file. I guess, I cannot compile an old x-server with fresh headers, am I right?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Old version of xorg-server

You need a bunch of other apps, apart from xorg-server.
I have version 1.6 for 32-bit. Have you already tried it?

Thanks for your reply, karol.

I'm running it atm so yeah :-) *But* I have a rather lean install and I have only a couple of dependencies I need to keep in sync with the old xorg. It may not work for you.
If you want to give it a shot, e-mail me and I'll e-mail you back the packages and a script that should take care of the downgrading.

Re: Old version of xorg-server

You can grab the old PKGBUILDs off the svn and build it. Have fun though, you will probably have to tweak them abit, and possibly rebuild a small load of other packages too.

I would do it in a chroot or a vm.

(or even better, update whatever you are trying to use. You shouldn't use stuff that requires outdated versions of xorg-server)

I can't wait the day I'm going to play Duke Nukem Forever on my old (currently unsupported) Intel card. Until then, I'll stick with xorg-server 1.6 ;P

Well, I have to rewrite one biiiiiig piece of soft that uses XSHM, then. And I am going to, but right now I just have no time for it.

And one more time, thanks, karol! smile
