UI in French?

Hello

I'm looking for a small Linux distribution that I can use as basis to add a few applications and device drivers before dumping the whole thing into an ISO and burn USB keys.

The top-item in the check-list is whether the distro supports Europen languages in addition to English. Does ArchLinux support this?

Thank you.

Re: UI in French?

If the apps support the language, I see no problem.
The install images you find in the download sections provide only a core system - no X.

If you mean "a really small distro" I suggest http://www.slitaz.org/i18n.html

Re: UI in French?

CTK ArchLive gives you both french and english (english with an addon).  Approx 550MB of packages in install CD or(flash install).

Initial system is french but after adding the english addon in "CTKhome" partition, english is established.  Arora can run in either english or french with a selection of language.  Midori is provided in French also.

Give it a try for just an hour of your time and a gig of flash drive.

Re: UI in French?

Yes, that's very simple. You simply have to edit your locale settings to French in you /etc/rc.conf (setting it, for example, to fr_FR.UTF-8, substituting the old one) and then uncomment the respective line in /etc/locale.gen.

Then run "locale-gen" from terinal and reboot.

You are done!

At least, this is how it worked for me with the Italian language!

Re: UI in French?

The keybd is incorrect for French entries with CTKArchLive (without the english enable.)

Sorry but I've never set up a French kb, so I don't know which is the correct entry. wink Mine was only an example taken from one of the frenc lines in my locale.gen!
