Hello, i am not a new Linux user , but i only use Arch Linux about 2 weeks and i am not yet familiarized with pacman.
I want to see which packages are to be updated and their respective local and repository version.
I if pacman have an option for "simulate" updates (just to see if i will need to update some config, and study that case even before do the update). Something "like" apt-get --simulate is what i want.
I am a Awesome WM user and until now in arch linux to see if there is a new package version in repository i go to the packages page and see the actual version.
I need to see the version that awesome will be updated to, because the awesome config file will probably be broken after the update.
References that i have read:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pacman
pacman manpage
Any help for any documentation information will be helpful.

Also, e.g. bauerbill will show which package versions you have and which are in the repos (e.g. minor v. major kernel version bump).
You can always run 'pacman -Syu' and abort or run:
pacman -Sp --print-format %n-%v awesome
