Linux Standard Base

Hi all,

I'm currently trying to get my laptop to connect to my university's network. As part of the registration process, you are required to download and install a binary called Bradford Dissolvable Agent, it's a security requirement. When I download the binary, set the permissons and try to run it, it tells me that it cannot run because LSB 3.0 or higher is not found, and asks me to install the apropriate LSB modules. Now, this exact same thing happened before when I was trying to run it on Ubuntu, and it was just a matter of "sudo apt-get install lsb". But I notice that LSB is lacking from the Arch repositories. I downloaded lsb-release but it doesn't seem to be of any help.

My query is, is there any way I can get lsb to install on my machine so I can run this binary and connect to the college network? Like is there somewhere I could download and compile the source? Or would it never work on Arch? If not, I might have to go back to Ubuntu as connecting to my college network is pretty important for me.

I'm not sure what additional information would be helpful at this point but I'm running Arch 32-bit on my laptop, and using the Gnome DE.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Linux Standard Base

My guess is that you need the LSB SDK. I don't see 32bit binaries anywhere so you might have to compile it from source.
Here's the link to both binaries and source:

Re: Linux Standard Base

Thank you! I'll give this a try and see how it goes.

EDIT: Going to the /source directory brings me to a list of files:

lsb-build-4.0.9-2.src.rpm
lsb-build-c++-4.0.3-1.src.rpm
lsb-build-qt3-4.0.1-3.src.rpm
lsb-build-qt4-4.0.2-3.src.rpm
lsb-makelsbpkg-4.0.1-1.src.rpm
lsb-runner-4.0.0-2.src.rpm
lsb-xdg-utils-4.0.0-2.src.rpm

Should I download and compile them all? Or just the first one or something?

Re: Linux Standard Base

The first one is the current release so I'd go with that. The others seem to be rewrites (for different programming languages) and optional additions (the last two, smaller files).
I'd check out the makelsbpkg file too. Sounds promising tongue.

Re: Linux Standard Base

Have you asked the college services to manually add you to the network? They should only need the mac address of your wireless and/or ethernet interface. I wouldn't bother trying to get the Bradford Dissolvable Agent to work (full of bugs).
