[SOLVED] ConsoleKit session / dbus Loading

Hey guys, sorry if I post this to the wrong board, but I'm not sure if this is a problem of KDE 4.5, caused by it or if its something completely different.

The problem is, that when I log into KDE via Kdm I would always get a warning like this:

Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory

and it is absolutely right: there is no such file ;-)

After this warning I am successfully loged into KDE. I get some warnings from PolicyKit1_KDE, but I'm able to use nearly everything, except some things:

NetworkManger isn't loading any connections (though manual loading via 'ifconfig eth0 up' and 'dhcpcd eth0' is possible)
No Bluetooth connection
No recognition of my laptop battery
No external USB support

Maybe someone already got an idea? I will give further information this evening, but for now, this is all I have.
Cheers

Re: [SOLVED] ConsoleKit session / dbus Loading

if you use kde, you _need_ to have dbus and hal in DAEMONS, rc.conf

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Re: [SOLVED] ConsoleKit session / dbus Loading

Hey! Thanks for the quick answer.
I have udev listed udev & hal in rc.conf and even tried every combination of them and so on, but it wouldn't work.

What I did: After I configured the desktop properly (everything works fine), I wanted some powersaving features enabled on my laptop, so I'm pretty sure, that one of those went wrong. After the last smooth boot process I can remember only the following:
installed acip
installed powertop
installed cpufrequtils
installed laptop mode tools
and I tried, to get my touchpad disabled while typing
I used the wiki article for that issue http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Tou … ile_Typing
I assume, that this one is a hot candidate for messing up the system! ;-)

That's all I can recall...

But what leaves me wondering is that I can use my keyboard and touchpad in X11, because I always thought those are controlled by udev.

What ever!
Cheers, troete

Edit: Sorry that my first post is so short and incomplete, but I had no time this morning! ;-)

EDIT-Edit:

I solved the "problem"... I had a syntax error in my rc.conf - sorry for bothering you.

Can you share your solution with us? I'm getting the exact same error regarding Consolekit. When I checked my rc.conf file, I noticed that 'dbus' was missing from the startup daemon list and 'network' was replace with '!network'. After adding dbus and unblocking network, I'm still getting this error.

I managed to work it out by reinstalling consolekit. I still don't know what happened to cause the problem though.

I don't either. As far as I know hal isn't needed any more as udisks replaces it.
