No response on shutdown

Hello,

Since i updated my Linux yesterday i was not able to shutdown.
I typed: sudo shutdown now.
After that it started to shutdown but after a few points it stopped and i had to press ctrl + d or root password to go in user mode. But no shutdown so far.

Today when i shutdown. I get the following:
INIT: switching to runlevel: 1
INIT: sending processor the TERM signal
INIT: sending processor the kill signal
INIT: no more processes left in this runlevel

After that i am only able to switch to another terminal but I can't type in there.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Niels
