[Solved] MPD questions

Hello,

I'm looking for a new way to play and organize my music and came (how can I possibly miss it?) across MPD. I took a look at the Wiki page and am left in doubt about whether it's safe and good to place the config files in my home folder. This would be the way I prefer things, as I like having all the files I control and have to manage in my home folder.

So can you explain me whether this is a good idea or generally unsafe to do? What are the pros and cons? Thanks in advance

Re: [Solved] MPD questions

That's how I have set it up on both my machines. For a single user, it is the most straightforward approach...

Re: [Solved] MPD questions

I have all my mpd files in my home directory. Works perfectly for me and you don't have to change permissions of files in order for mpd to work when you install that way.

So it doesn't bring any hassles with it? Hmm, guess I'll give it a go then. Thanks smile

Re: [Solved] MPD questions

If you have multiple users on your system and want all of them to share the same mpd config, then you might consider having it shared, but otherwise I think home directory is fine.

Re: [Solved] MPD questions

So I just installed MPD and made the config files as shown in the wiki. When I try to start MPD, I get this output:

[jente@Lappy ~]$ /etc/rc.d/mpd start
:: Starting Music Player Daemon                                          [BUSY] /etc/rc.d/mpd: line 6: 19154 Aborted                 /usr/bin/mpd /etc/mpd.conf &>/dev/null
                                                                         [FAIL]

Any tips?

Re: [Solved] MPD questions

Nevermind, fixed it. Had to run mpd instead of starting it as a daemon.
