e17 segfaults

Hi,

I have this problem with periodical segfaults. Sometimes it is vlc, sometimes it is lxterminal. It can be ok on one boot, but on the following lxterminal will fail to open with segfaults. Does anyone else experienced this?

Re: e17 segfaults

Well, e17 has always had garbage stability for me too. I just gave up on it.

I have an Nvidia 8300GS with proprietary drivers.

Well,
I would like not to give up, it is good for my old laptop. And pretty too.

Re: e17 segfaults

I have encountered some errors at times but not too often and I just restart e17. Awlays loved that I could restart the wm while the windows stayed functional. Do you have the bling or compositing modules enabled? These can cause a lot of problems.
If it always happens when you move over icons it might be a problem with a .desktop file. Other than that I do not know but a different video driver might help.

Thank you for your reply. Sometimes I restart E17, but it still won't open lxterminal or vlc. So, I have to use kmplayer. I don't use any bling except shadows, that's it. Of course I understand E17 is under heavy development, but I saw many reviews on the internet that people use it on daily basis. I installed radeon for my ati card.

Re: e17 segfaults

This is actually a common problem; I played around with e17 for a little while, and had it happen pretty often, though I never lost any work because of it.  As I recall, there's a little splash screen that popped up when I first installed Enlightenment that warned that segfaults should be expected.  It should be visible under "About Enlightenment" or some such in the menu.  Since e17 is considered to be under heavy ( beta-stage) development--and has been for years--I wouldn't expect this to go away too soon.

Re: e17 segfaults

Enlightenment may hang once in a while and give a pop-up asking if it should restart itself. This should however not happen often. If it does there is a reasonable change that it is caused by either shelves or icons. Try removing any modules and adding them one at a time.

A segfault where e17 crashes to the command-line or slim should be very rare indeed. Don't know how to fix it if that happens often but try google.
