how do I Convert an image to a spreadsheet

hello all, I have an image here and I need to convert it to a spreadsheet editable by openoffice calc or excel, how can I do this? I have seen some apps on the internet buy they all charge money and I dont want to spent $100+ on a thing I will just need for 1 time, besides they are all windows.

How can I do this? any online tools or something like that?

thanks in advance

Re: how do I Convert an image to a spreadsheet

How does the image need to be converted?  How should the spreadsheet be organized?  By being editable in Calc and Excel, does this mean it must be in "*.xlsx" form, or is a plugin form between the two available as an option?

Spreadsheet should be a simple table, 5 columns and about 27 rows.

I would prefer to edit in calc, but if thats not an option the excel, I dont mind the extension if it loads correctly.

And I don't understand your plugin question, can you rephrase? you mean like using a plugin with any of the programs to open/edit the image?

cheers

Have you tried using an OCR program?  The ouput will be simple ascii text that you should be able to import into calc.  For example http://www.archlinux.org/packages/commu … tesseract/

What should each column and row contain?  Basically, what information do you want in the spreadsheet, and how should it be placed?
Actually, I believe it would be easier to output to Calc than Excel, so that shouldn't be a problem.
By plugin, it was an extension of the previous question.  I was asking if there was a third form it could be saved as and be read in as a plugin.  You said you wanted the data in Calc, so ignore this statement now.

5 columns and 27 rows -- one time? Just type it. over. It'd only take 5-10 minutes.

Well thats ONE page, and I need to do this with like 20 pages big_smile

The info on the spreadsheet is a simple products list, along with prices, serial number, quantity and brand

Will try that OCR method and come back with results
