[SOLVED] id 'x' respawning too fast due to fbsplash

I recently installed fbsplash to replace plymouth. Installation was all smooth, but rebooting to test out fbsplash yielded me this message:

Id 'x' respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

I could not access SLiM, and X as a result. startx yielded this:

intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected
Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration

You need to set up KMS.

Thanks. Turns out I have been using the wrong kernel line for menu.lst. Solved.
