Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 : No Keyboard input on login

Hi there,
im trying to install ArchLinux from the archlinux-2010.05-netinstall-x86_64 download. I get boot screen fine and can select which option to boot to with the keyboard fine, however, once i reach the login screen, i have no keyboard input. I don't have a spare keyboard either.

is there a switch or can i modify the boot options somehow to get the kb working?

btw currently using ubuntu 10.10, and there were no issues with installing 10.04 or 10.10 using the same hardware

cheers

I'm not an expert but would have thought you need to have the Bluetooth wireless stack installed for it to pickup keyboard (think ubuntu already has it installed).

Here is link to Bluetooth wiki

I ran dmesg on Ubuntu to see what its using.

Papina@UBOX:~$ dmesg | grep -i microsoft

It doesn't mention any bluetooth when i search for that. The keyboard/mouse uses a dongle that i've tried plugging into different ports but nothing seems to help.

Oddly enough when its loading the drivers, they keyboard actually does work (i can press random characters and get them to show), its only when it swaps to the login screen that the keyboard then stops working

Re: Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 : No Keyboard input on login

Ok, misread your question - i thought you had installed already and having the issue after a reboot.

Perhaps it's just as simple as this hardware cannot be detected properly by the Arch installer - maybe someone can verify this if this is the case, or not.

One thing you could try is to go into the machines BIOS and enable USB Legacy Support or Legacy Keyboard Device and see if that helps you out.

Nope, the most I managed to do was either disable the keyboard entirely or have it repeat the last key I typed in while it loads the drivers.

Im thinking I might try to load another distro and see if the same problem happens, or even install Arch while running a live CD distro. is that even possible?

Yeah you could give Archbang live CD a go and see if it's any different also you may want to try the 32bit install of Arch and see if theres any difference too.

After this, I'm outta ideas sad
