startx generates Segmentation fault

I have a problem starting the X Window System in Arch Linux running in a VirtualBox virtual machine -- specifically, a Segmentation fault.

All my relevant files are located on paste.pocoo.org, like this:

~/.xinitrc: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/306291
/etc/X11/xorg.conf: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/306287
/var/log/Xorg.0.log: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/306289
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/306290

Based on all this information, are there any suggestions you can provide for me?

I thank you for any help you can give me.

Re: startx generates Segmentation fault

Maybe https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vi … as_a_guest ?

Your /var/log/Xorg.0.log link has a typo: it should read 'pocoo' not 'pogoo'.

Re: startx generates Segmentation fault

Let's talk about the (EE) errors in /var/log/Xorg.0.log first, and see if fixing those errors helps solve the problem.

While the virtual machine is not running, I have changed the machine's settings to Display > 3D Acceleration: Disabled, and now I get "AIGLX error: Calling driver entry point failed" where "AIGLX error: vboxvideo does not export required DRI extension" used to be, but in either case, the next line says "AIGLX: reverting to software rendering". A bit further on, the next error I get is "VirtualBox USB Tablet: failed to initialize for relative axes".

As for the wiki page that was provided, I believe I have followed those instructions to the letter.

Also, I have fixed the link to the Xorg.0.log.

Anyway, let me know what fixes you can provide.

Re: startx generates Segmentation fault

Is there a reason not to use the current xorg 1.9.2 instead of 1.9 you have installed?
Is Arch running OK before you attempt to startx?

Re: startx generates Segmentation fault

Since my initial post I have indeed upgraded to Xorg 1.9.2. And Arch is fully functional while I am at the command line.

Re: startx generates Segmentation fault

Based on the fact that I have gotten no response in a long time, I am forced to conclude that I have completely borked my Arch Linux system and therefore have no choice but to reformat my hard drive and begin again.
