[answered] What is the number after the version of a package ?

Hello,

I wonder : what is the difference between postgresql-libs-9.0.2-1 et postgresql-libs-9.0.2-2 ?

Also, how can we know if an upgrade is a security one or not ? (except by trying to find the changelog and read it) ?

Re: [answered] What is the number after the version of a package ?

This is the "pkgrel". This is taken from this wiki page:

pkgrel
The release number of the package specific to Arch Linux. This value allows users to differentiate between consecutive builds of the same version of a package. When a new package version is first released, the release number starts at 1. As fixes and optimizations are made to the PKGBUILD file, the package will be re-released and the release number will increment by 1. When a new version of the package comes out, the release number resets to 1.

Re: [answered] What is the number after the version of a package ?

The package release number (pkgrel) may be incremented for several reasons, e.g. to add missing dependencies, to rebuild the package against a newer version of a library, to include a patch in the build process.

Usually a changelog will be the only way to find out why a package was rebuilt, but you can usually find those easily  here.
