I went to shut down my computer normally via "sudo halt" and I got the message "System going down for a halt NOW..." message as per usual but it never turned off. What logs would be of use to troubleshoot this?

Try 'sudo init 0' to halt for real.

How about sudo poweroff?

I meant: turn off via 'sudo init 0' instead of 'sudo halt', not after.

Try kernel suggestions in Debian bug.

Ok, wasn't sure. Isn't "sudo halt" effectively the same thing? How are they different?
