Is it possible to install multiple window managers?

This may be a newbie question (hence why I posted it here tongue)

Is it okay to install both fluxbox and openbox in the same system (not use them both at once, but alternate between them), or will this cause problems, clunkiness, slowness, etc?

Thanks smile

Re: Is it possible to install multiple window managers?

Sure, it is possible. I use it like this: I have a separate xinit and Xdefaults files for i3 and for openbox. Then I added an "i3" alias to 'xinit /path/to/xinit/file' and call "i3" when logged in to tty1 (or other). You can as well use startx, but then you need to edit your default xinitrc file.

Re: Is it possible to install multiple window managers?

I flick between fluxbox, i3 and xfce just for some variety - they make their configs in different directories so it is never an issue smile

Re: Is it possible to install multiple window managers?

I have at least 10 window managers installed and use a custom dmenu script to choose between several of them at login.

There are few downsides. Try running Openbox from a full Gnome install via GDM. It'll infest Openbox with gnomities. But besides that and eating away space on your disk, it should be fine.
