[SOLVED] PCI USB card connected, but unusable

Hi everyone,

Some years ago, I got an old computer with USB 1.1.  So I bought a USB 2.0 PCI card.
On Windows, Ubuntu, I've got no problem.

I installed Archlinux on it, it is running fine, but when I wanted to plug my portable hard disk on it, I couldn't find it in /dev and lsusb gived nothing.  It's the first time I use this PCI card on Arch.  I tried with my USB stick and several other peripherals...nothing.
Still, the peripherals are powered by the PCI's USB ports.

The integrated USB ports are working with my USB stick and my hard drive.

I executed lspci to see if the PCI card was detected.
Here's the output of lspci :

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82815 815 Chipset Host Bridge and Memory Controller Hub (rev 02)

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82815 Chipset Graphics Controller (CGC) (rev 02)

00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 PCI Bridge (rev 02)

00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801BA ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02)

00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801BA IDE U100 Controller (rev 02)

00:1f.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM USB Controller #1 (rev 02)

00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM SMBus Controller (rev 02)

00:1f.4 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801BA/BAM USB Controller #1 (rev 02)

01:0a.0 Ethernet controller: Lite-On Communications Inc LNE100TX (rev 20)

01:0d.0 USB Controller: NEC Corporation Device 0015 (rev 43)

I thought it was the last one, but now I'm thinking about it, I'm not sure, because my PCI card's brand is LaCie.

So, what can I do to use the USB ports on my PCI card ?

(NOTE : this old computer has no GUI, and it will never get one)

Grab Ubuntu cd and do lspci in that see if card shows up, check loaded modules while you are there [just in case something is loaded that relates to your card]

Re: [SOLVED] PCI USB card connected, but unusable

I didn't fund it on the Live environment of Ubuntu, but I place my PCI card in another slot and now it is showing in my Archlinux.  My USB peripherals are working on it.
I should have tried to change the slot before.

Thanks anyway.  If a similar problem appears, I will know how to check this out.
