XFCE Master Volume Popup

Hi,

I've just done a new install to try out XFCE, pretty happy with it all but I've found one really minor thing I can't work out.  I've set the laptops multimedia volume and mute keys to control the master channel on alsa and it works just fine.  When I first set them up adjusting the volume with the multimedia keys meant a popup/notification appeared showing the new volume, now, for some reason, that popup doesn't appear though the controls are still adjusting the volume as they should.

The popups appear to be working in general as adjusting the screen brightness via the keys works and the pop up appears, I'm just curious to know what I've done to stop the one for the volume working.  If anyones got any suggestions on where I can look please?

Re: XFCE Master Volume Popup

I've sort of worked round it by installing the xfce4-volumed package from AUR but it's not the same kind of notification/popup as is displayed for the screen brightness (and was displayed for volume, unless I dreamt that happened).

Re: XFCE Master Volume Popup

Could it be this bug in xfce4-notifyd?

Re: XFCE Master Volume Popup

Hi, thanks for the response.  It's similar but isn't really a notification/osd type popup, the workaround in my second post gets notification/osd type working ok, however my question is about the popup I was sure I got that's the same as the one XFCE pops when changing the brightness;  is appears as a popup in the middle of the screen, not the same as the notification/osd type of alert.

I have a screen shot of the brightness one that I'll try and find a home for and link to it from here, see if that makes more sense.

On my eee netbook, the popup for brightness is handled by the bios

Re: XFCE Master Volume Popup

Interesting, suppose it could be that, does look more like a desktop manager type thing though, also there are no popups when I'm in a full screen console/no-x session or during boot.

Re: XFCE Master Volume Popup

Ok, I've uploaded a screen shot to show what I mean, it's here

The popup/notification in the centre of the screen is the sort I used to get when changing the volume, I didn't have to do anything to make that work other than assign the amixer %5+/- to the media keys.

When that stopped working I installed notify-send/libnotify/xfce4-volumed to get the one in the top right as a workaround
