ADSL connection help

While configuring do I separately need to configure the hardware(router, NIC card...) or do I do it directly through rp-pppoe

Here I add my isp nameserver in the router config and add the router as the nameserver in /etc/resolv.conf. Nothing ppp is needed for adsl afaik.
I set a static ip in /etc/rc.conf and that's all there is to it.
Hope it helps.

Re: ADSL connection help

A regular router usually doesn't do ADSL, but if you have a modem (or a modem/router combo) that will handle the ADSL connection; all you need to do is tell Arch to assign an IP (probably, and preferably in your case, through DHCP).

You only need rp-pppoe when your computer is hooked up to your ADSL line directly.

Re: ADSL connection help

What I've got is a router(doesn't handle ADSL)- I have to connect to the internet manually. I just tried setting up an internet connection by using just pppoe-setup but it failed when I tried connecting to the net. I think I also need to install NIC to modprobe(not sure). How do I do that?

Re: ADSL connection help

You can use   lspci   to find out what nic you have and an internet search to see if it needs any extra work
Ifconfig will tell what ip address it has or if you haven't set it up to have one.

First return from entering Realtek RTL8168c in www.google.com/linux
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … et-727560/
says there is a kernel module for it so if you are using the stock kernel it should be loadable
You should also have a look at the fine wiki
