Hal & Catalyst

I've read that today's "fashion" says not to use hal but dbus. So I firstly added "!hal dbus" to my conf.
But after reading unofficial catalyst wiki on http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Arch_Linux, I am confused. It says about hal like of necessity to install catalyst from AUR.
What should I do best?

I see that catalyst is no longer supported so maybe someone else will jump in on this one

Re: Hal & Catalyst

I'm running catalyst without hal, works fine and it isn't marked as a dependency on AUR.
Just follow the instructions on the Arch Linux wiki:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI_Catalyst

Easiest thing to do imo is to set up the catalyst repositories and then install with pacman.

Good luck

Re: Hal & Catalyst

@Mr Green - catalyst is no longer in official repos, but thanks to Vi0L0 its up-to-date at AUR. We also have unofficial catalyst repo, which always contains the newest version of the driver.

@dr-kar - hal is currently absolutely useless with catalyst and it is not any type dependency for it. Feel free to build catalyst package from AUR or use the easiest way by adding following repo to your pacman.conf:

for i686

[catalyst]
Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/i686

for x86_64

[catalyst]
Server = http://catalyst.apocalypsus.net/repo/catalyst/x86_64

If you have any questions related to this package, feel free to ask in The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill topic.
