[SOLVED] Boot 'really' directly, quickly? (using GRUB)

Hi there, just a silly question: is there a way to boot 'really' directly the OS?
I mean, I have Arch only on my hd, so I use hiddenmenu and timeout 0, but it seems that GRUB still wastes time loading useless stuff... or not?
Thank you in advance

If your timeout is 0 then grub's work is done in about 1 second, all the rest of the stuff is loading the kernel and doing basic initialization of the system. You might want to check this thread - where a faster boot method is proposed:

Can you define "useless stuff" please?

I meant that maybe there was a way to avoid to load all the 'menu.lst' config in order to go straight to the action tongue

Anyway, I read others' suggestions, thank you very much smile very interesting indeed

This bothers me, too. My system needs about 15 sec to boot into graphic login shell, while grub takes about 10 sec to start booting.

And how much of that 10 seconds to start grub are actually your bios and post screen?

+1

Use bootchart to see what takes your system so long.
