Gnome3 newbe needs info & help

Hi,

Is it my impression or is gnome ... ugly.

A list
- no right-click on the desk top
- cannot set any icons/launchers
- need to add system applets (power graph)
- top and bottom line in ... black? what? someone died? In Flanders, black lining is needed for obituaries...
- what are the needs for gnome 3
- can I go back? or change to an other desktop?
- Eclipse is (again) unusable...
- where is the trashcan? I need my trashcan!

Questions, questions.

Bottom line: what manual do I read to get this fixed?

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=gnome-shell

Gnome-shell is pretty new and brings new conceptions. This means you can find some tutorials, but no complete documentation yet. You may need time to get used to it or you should switch to other DE.
You can fully customize your desktop, e.g. /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gnome-shell.css
Re trashcan, have you ever opened Nautilus? If not, check it out. tongue

Thor - you have been asked repeatedly to search before posting. The boards are littered with Gnome 3 posts - most of them answering the questions that you have lumped together here.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fo … ow_to_Post

Please take the time to search and include some information in your posts that indicates you have made at least some effort to understand your own system before turning to others for assistance. Otherwise, this looks like help vampirism.

Closing.
