initscripts update - what does it mean?

I've seen the posting on the main page about the initscripts update, the movement to /sbin/rc.d, etc., but can't seem to find any information about what this is really about.  Starting and stopping daemons is something I've done under /etc/rc.d for years, seeing the status of things has been a ps ax activity.  I guess I'm wondering what changed, what improved, how this affects my machine, etc.  Couldn't find anything in the forum or the wiki on this....

/sbin/rc.d allows you to start/stop daemons, just like "/etc/rc.d/$DAEMON start/stop" would, with the difference that you just have to type "rc.d $DAEMON start".

Furthermore you can have a list of all available daemons, their status and whether they are started "automatically" from rc.conf, printed to stdout by issuing "rc.d list".

Oh, and you can start multiple daemons at once "rc.d start $DAEMON1 $DAEMON2".

Apart from that I can't see any differences for me.
