I have an Acer Aspire Timeline 1830T-3505 with 64-bit Arch and KDE4. When the battery gets low, KDE seems to think it is turning the screen brightness down because a symbol pops up showing a bar with the screen brightness decreasing, but in reality the screen brightness always stays full-strength. I'd like KDE to be able to actually dim the screen to save power. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I've used xfce before, but prefer KDE and don't intend to make a DE switch just for this issue Any other ideas?

Have you tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/As … Brightness ? I don't know a thing about KDE, but maybe it's enough if you can do it manually ;P
Edit: Have you tried https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ac … ss_control

Thanks, karol. I really thought the grub kernel line edit in the second link you sent would do the trick but actually there seems to be no change... Any other ideas?

You can ask on some general Linux forums.
